Greetings, my name is Jenni and my pronouns are she/her/hers. I’ve spent the last fifteen plus years , mostly in Chicago, working in areas such as sexual abuse/assault and domestic violence, community-based trauma and mental health, neighborhood-based health care, and corrections. I currently reside in the pacific northwest, on the border of Portland, OR and Southwest Washington and have a private practice that I opened in 2019, Hiraeth Psychotherapy, LLC.
I learned of my own misattributed parentage in the fall of 2018 through two DNA testing kits and I also learned of a new racial/ethnic identity as well. While I have had my own experience, I cannot say I “understand” yours exactly, but I can say that I do have insight into the nuances that come with this experience and when learning of a new racial/ethnic identity especially . I have had experience in contacting new “family” members and seeking out more understanding about where I come from. Also, I recognize that all MPE/NPE experiences are not necessarily “traumatic, for some of us it is more of an exhale and release of trying to make something “fit” that maybe never quite did. Whatever your experience is, I have experience as a trauma therapist and as a therapist who helps people endure and thrive during life altering transitions
I am influenced by, and will utilize components of, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Level 1, Attachment Theory, and Interpersonal Neurobiology. I consider these tools and frames in which to add to the work we will do, and I am also mindful of their limitations in healing and acknowledging the impacts of racism, oppression, and micro-aggressions on life and the spirit. At the end of the day, research has consistently shown that it is the therapeutic relationship that makes the most impact.
