Annette Becklund, LCSW, NBCCH is a licensed clinical social worker and nationally board-certified clinical hypnotherapist with more than two decades of experience supporting individuals and families through trauma recovery, identity exploration, and emotional healing. A Level II EMDR clinician and trauma-informed therapist, she works with grief, anxiety, misattributed parentage experiences (MPEs), and neurodevelopmental differences including ADHD and autism spectrum disorders.

After discovering in 2018 that she was an NPE (Not Parent Expected), Annette began working more closely with others navigating DNA surprises—such as NPEs, adoptees, and donor-conceived individuals—focusing on the emotional impact of identity shifts and truth-based trauma. She has presented topics including Inner Child healing, trauma, and MPE-related identity loss at events such as the Untangling Your Roots Summit, Hiraeth Hope and Healing, Right to Know and the 2025 Concerned United Birthparents (CUB) Conference. Annette facilitates therapeutic writing workshops and has provided autism training and trauma-informed workshops for clinicians and the public.

Her publications include:

  • A chapter on “Understanding and Treating Autism” in the Social Work Desk Reference (Oxford University Press)
  • peer-reviewed study on the use of weighted blankets in the Journal of Integrative Medicine
  • The children’s book “Warren Is Wonderful”, designed to empower neurodiverse children
  • Her personal memoir, Ancestry Discoveries – What Happens Under the Sheets Doesn’t Stay There, which explores the emotional and spiritual journey of uncovering biological truth

Annette is also a lyricist, with songs that touch on themes of healing, identity, grief, and ancestral connection. She has been a guest on several podcasts. “The Looking Glass,” a song with lyrics by Annette and music by Mauro Melleno can be found on all streaming applications: https://mauromelleno.hearnow.com/ or YouTube.
